Lois began to write about attitudes towards disability in the 1990s, part of a growing band of disabled women, including Jane (now Lady) Campbell, Jenny Morris, and Rosalie (now Lady) Wilkins, who were spearheading change in the years before the Disability Discrimination Act was passed.

A mother-of-three has died from her injuries six days after a horrific crash which killed her husband and injured her three young children.  Keli Machado, 30, succumbed to her injuries at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers on Friday, while her five-year-old daughter Khaleesi remains in a critical condition, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Keli's husband Jesus 'Tito' Machado was killed at the scene of the crash on April 20. The couple's sons, 11-year-old Anthony and 8-year-old Vincent, survived with minor injuries.
